TLC’s Extreme Couponing {My Thoughts & Tips}

Some of you may have watched or heard about TLC Extreme Couponing Show that aired last night. A few of you wanted to know my thoughts on it, so very quickly I will let you know :)

First, I am not one to judge how any one lives their life.

I heard that many things were donated from the trips during the show. And I feel like being able to donate is one of the best things about couponing! I am able to give more now then ever before! I was able to donate two Christmas baskets to local families filled with household items, toys, and personal care items.  It feels so great to be able to do so much for so little!

This did not portrait how you HAVE to coupon.

I really hope it did not scare anyone into thinking they have to spend 40 hours a week or $70 on coupons!  I don’t even do all that! I believe the show was crafted to portrait the Extremes, and it was said that these were planned trips, not the average shopping trip!  I spend less than 2 hours preparing and shopping at my stores each week.

I also get all my coupon inserts for FREE! I have talked before about going and talking to your local gas stations. Most will still get credit for the actual newspaper and do not care if you take the coupons out at the end of the night or even early Monday morning. It never hurts to ask! Plus I am sure many of you could ask friends, neighbors, relatives, etc for their extra inserts as well!

To Sum it Up

It was a television show trying to put a very extreme spin on a very useful and helpful blessing many families benefit from. I think TLC could have easily made this a GREAT show by truly showing the benefits we could all use to save on our grocery bills.  They did not so if you need the benefits or tips please check out some links below:

I would love to hear your thoughts on the show–feel free to leave any comments!

  1. I think it’s a shame that they took something that could have educated others on how to better utilize the money in their budget with couponing and turned it into an extreme reality show. This could have really been a great learning show if they had went a different direction with the program. It would not have received the attention that this show is receiving — it would have been a much better fit for the type of network airing the show.
