Shredded Paper Seed Starter!

Its day 4 of the 104 Days of Summer Fun, today’s activity is a Shredded Paper Seed Starter!

seed starter project

We recently completed this activity at a local day camp and the kids LOVED mushing the paper and shaping their seed starters! Nice way to combine a craft & earth friendly activity in one!

Supplies needed:

  • leftover paper {ie junk mail, old school papers, etc.}
  • shredded colored tissue paper {just for fun color, so its optional!}
  • water
  • wildflower seeds
  • cookie cutters {you can just shape them by hand, but this works well for fun shapes!}

Instructions:

  1. Start by shredding all the paper into little pieces.
  2. Add  enough water to get the papers moist with a little extra.
  3. Smush it all together to get it nice and combined
  4. fill a cookie cutter with the paper mixture and squeeze out any extra water until it becomes solid enough to remove from cookie cutter
  5. while still damp place seeds on top
  6. Let dry and then once its dry place into a planter and add soil!
