Recipe for Oobleck! Is it a Liquid or a Solid?!

Its day 8 of the 104 Days of Summer Fun, today’s activity is making Oobleck!

This was a really fun experiment we did with the kids. My older sons class was learning about solids, liquids, and gases and sent home a recipe for Oobleck and asked is Oobleck a liquid or a solid. It was simple ingredients so we made it. It was so cool! Check out the video below to see for yourself. Then make some with your kids to wow them!

Supplies Needed:

  • Bowl
  • water
  • food coloring {optional}
  • cornstarch
  1.  pour 1 tablespoon of water into a bowl

making oobleck

3. if you want to add food coloring add it now, add about 3 drops {Warning! We used “Neon” food coloring and it stained fingers!}
4.Slowly add 2 tablespoons of cornstarch while you stir or knead

oobleck

5.If the mixture is too thin add more cornstarch. If too thick add more water
6.Explore the Oobleck!
7.When you are done exploring do not pour Oobleck down the drain as it could clog.
