Food Coloring, Milk, Dish Soap Experiment

As part of the 104 Days of Summer Fun, today’s activity is a Food Coloring, Milk, Dish Soap Experiment!

The kids thought this was really cool to see what would happen. And a weird thing happened to the plates once we were done that I thought was interesting.

milk experiment ingredients

Supplies needed:

  • dinner plate {we used paper plates for less mess, but it really wasn’t a good idea because it was hard to move afterwards without spilling milk. so either use real plates or less milk}
  • food coloring
  • dish soap
  • q-tips

Instructions:

  1. Pour milk into plate
  2. Have kids place one drop of each of 4 different food coloring in the center of the dish.
  3. dip one end of the q-tip into the dish soap and then place it onto the plate. Try not to swirl too much yet.
  4. See what happens :)

Oh and since we used paper plates something cool happened when I rinsed the plates off the original drops of color remained on the bottom of the plate!
